Deux Ex Machina Cafe in Harajuku is one of those “to cool for school” looking places, so naturally, we wanted to go check it out!
In our heads, this was a working garage, bike style mechanic sort of coffee shop. So it was perfect to bring our bike-loving Brazilian friend! We just wanted to make sure he would enjoy this and guess what, he did! Though this did not look like the back of someone’s garage, it was stylish and comfortable. And the guys being really sound added to the vibe! They had bikes on the second floor and a record player downstairs, so it looked like a really cool place to hang out.
But to be honest the food was what we really came for and were not disappointed. They have a great breakfast menu to choose from until 11.20 and after that, you can order from the also amazing lunch menu. So don’t feel too bad if you are a bit late…
As we were starving, we kinda really wanted to try many things. So we ordered two items of the breakfast Menu, ate it and then ordered 2 items of the Lunch Menu. Had to be done with so many tasty looking dishes to choose from…
What did we get?
The Avocado Toast (¥700), an Granola (¥700), Pulled Pork and the Avocado and Chicken Sandwich (¥1250each) as well as Coffees for ¥500 each. Which is pretty good value if you think about it. Portion sizes were good and the food was really tasty! The Sandwiches came with shoestring fries, which was a nice side and especially the Pulled Pork was delicious!
It might not be your first choice when in Harajuku, but it should be on your list! Make sure you check them out if you are looking for a nice breakfast place. We will definitely be back as the breakfast options were just too good to be true, especially in the brunch-desert we call Tokyo.
