We have seen photos on Instagram and social media of 2D Cafe here in Shin Okubo and wanted to see what all the hype was about and you know what? It’s really fun!
Stepping into the cafe you get transported into this 2D space and it’s mad how easily your eyes get tricked into believing it. All black and white it really makes you see it and on pictures, it does look brilliant! We guess they do it with smart lighting as well as the uneven lines, that give it that hand-drawn effect. Well, whatever it is 2D Cafe makes it work!
The coffee was tasty too and the matcha bubble tea was delicious. Together they came to 1200¥. Well, a bit more expensive than some shops, but we think it’s ok for what you get. With many novelty cafes in Tokyo charging way more, to be honest. They do have cakes too, which makes it a nice place to check out for an afternoon tea. Play around with which angle is best and getting a great shot. Just a nice hour or so to spend indoors if the weather is not that friendly.
So yes we definitely recommend 2D Cafe! Maybe not your everyday coffee fix but well worth visiting at least once.
