Bio Ojiyan Cafe Shimokitazawa is one of several Cafes, part of a small chain of cute Cafes around Tokyo!

The Cafe is located just a few minutes walk from the west exit at Shimokitazawa Odakyu line. So it is super easy to find. The decoration is shabby chic, which is perfectly coordinated with its location, Shimokitazawa being the 2nd hand heaven for many…

It’s a good size restaurant, so if you are going during the week, the queue should not be too long. If you pick the weekend, especially around lunch-time, there might be a little wait.

The specialty here is a dish called Ojiya which is kind of a rice soup. Does not sound delicious you think? Just imagine a small pan filled with a risotto-like rice and you get close. The basic one comes with a breadstick coated in sugar, nori seaweed, shallots and a tiny sausage looking like an octopus ????.  But you can add more toppings to your liking, my favorite is the burnt cheese! You can also choose slow-cooked egg, kimchi, pumpkin, pickles and so on…. They do serve two sizes ‘M” and “L”, for me M was pretty decent, but if your hungry order “L” and add a few toppings, they are around ¥150 each, so your not breaking the bank.

They also have daily plates too, I had the curry before which was delicious! My friend ordered the croquet with fried chicken, accompanied by Natto and pickles (she loved it!). If you arrive between 11 am and 4 pm (closing time is 11pm) you can order a lunch set, which means you can add a drink for ¥200 and/or another ¥280 for dessert. Mains come in at just around ¥1000, so this is a pretty good deal 🙂

And last but not least, anybody loving a nice food shot for their Instagram, this place won’t disappoint you. ????
