Walden Woods Kyoto is as much a coffee shop as it is an art Installation. It’s highly conceptual and located in a quiet area next to a park and children’s playground. So the contrast could not be any bigger.
The front is a white cube with floor to ceiling windows. Everything in it is kept in whitewashed wood. It seems empty and almost closed but do dare to go in. Upstairs is where they created an almost magical space.
The Centerpiece is a tree and there is no seating. Just an agora. It reminds us of a Celtic sacred place in winter. Maybe even a hint of games of thrones? We leave that to you…
Lanterns are places all around and all though in daylight create a unique atmosphere. If you look at the ground you can see no shadows except for the tree that throws them in a 360 circle.
But it is stunning.
They play slow indi music from surround speakers. Super relaxing. A little escape from the world outside.
And the coffee? The wide selection of roast available should sooth any coffee lover. A latte comes in at 500¥ and the small canele was 200¥. And yes, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially in this calm and peaceful space.
If you love arty spaces, paired with a good cup of coffee then Walden Woods Kyoto is a must-see in Kyoto. A real hidden gem!
