Cidernaut Shibuya opened a few days ago and what better timing to do so than just before St. Patricks day?!

Cider, for many decades is a drink that Japanese associate alongside cola and local soft drink gem C.C. Lemon. You see, cider or specifically the Mitsuya Cider brand is a long-selling fizzy drink perfect for quenching summer thirst.

The apple-based alcoholic cider, however, has been something of a quandary in Japan until recent years. Some UK and Irish pub chains have been stocking run-of-the-mill ciders such as Strongbow and Magners for exorbitant prices but your real, bits of floating apple and notes of rural England variety has been totally missing from the capital’s bar scene until now.

UK gent and all-round nice guy Lee Reeve, founder of inCiderJapan, has been instrumental in promoting and educating locals of the qualities of cider over the last few years. An expert on cider and its qualities he has been working with bars and restaurants across the capital and helping them promote the best ciders from across the globe. Until now, however, there have been very few cider-based bars in Tokyo. A shout out to Yokohama pub Full Monty which has been screaming about ciders for some time now but in Tokyo your only option has been a few craft beer places that dabble in ciders.
