Garage coffee located in Yotsuya is, well, not in any way a garage cafe or what you might imagine…

In fact, it is a little oasis transporting you to a Kyoto-like scene, with tiny shrines, an outdoor garden terrace, and a small temple shop. It’s quiet and local and unexpected. We love it.

The actual cafe is a tiny shop in between the shrines and does only a few cakes, tofu donuts, and tea/coffee. It features a tiny library and really is a hidden gem.

We got a yuzu cake for ¥450 and the tea of the day, which was roasted wheat at ¥300. She heated up the cake and we moved out to the terrace to relax.

People are coming and going, it’s lively but not loud. You hear the gong when people ring it for prayer, some chatting. It’s just so pleasant. We are actually thinking about how to pass by every day… maybe just once a week, for a quick escape from the city.

And we realize, it’s only open on Sundays and holidays!!

We guess that makes it even more special. So, add this on your list and next time you need a break on a Sunday visit Garage Coffee, we might be there too!
