This small ramen shop near Shinjuku got me intrigued because of its unusual Menu. Italian flavors mixed with traditional Japanese ramen and you got Aburasoba Chigo Ramen! One of the ramen creations is even called “the Italian flag”, with its colors resembling it, with a poached egg to add as a topping. I mean who could resist that?

Located near Yamanoto lines Okubo Stations south exit, it is easy to find. A rather small shop with about 10 counter seats it is cozy and comfortable. And the best part, in this small space, you get to see how the Ramen is made right in front of you! It might be a little distracting, but well…

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block; text-align:center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-7675741398882182" data-ad-slot="1295407206"></ins>

Aburasoba Chigo Ramen is also a bit unusual as they have a variety of other dishes including a homemade curry and meats such as steak on the menu. Which as an added bonus comes in English and with plenty of pictures. So even if you are not entirely sure what to order, there won’t be any crazy surprises.

The food

I ordered the spicy oily ramen for 700¥ and added a poached egg for another 100¥. Which makes this place really affordable. And not just that, it was delicious!

The addition of more salady toppings, such as diced raw onion and green leaves helped to make it feel lighter and although it was the spicy variation, it did not blow my head off. Though, if that is what you are looking for, there is plenty of condiments including chilly to add. Ramen is great like that.

So this should definitely be on your list of must-eats, especially if you find yourself in the area. However, you may get there and have to wait for a little due to its smaller size. It is definitely worth it, but just in case you do not have time for that, there is another ramen shop close by selling the best spiciest ramen in Tokyo.

Gomaryuu is a small Ramen Shop near Okubo station and it’s famous for its extra spicy ramen!

Of course, they also have a “normal” one for anyone who cannot take the heat, but if you are a spice lover Gomaryuu Ramen is really the ramen shop for you in Tokyo!

You can hardly miss it with its signature skull just as you leave Okubo stations south exit. There can be a queue, but it is worth the wait. Also as with most Ramen shops, people do not come to spend time but to eat, enjoy and quickly leave.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-7675741398882182"
     data-ad-slot="1295407206"></ins>

So get your ticket at the machine out front. It is all in Japanese, but there is a note next to it with some English on it. Also, the spice levels are written on the buttons, so even if you do not speak Japanese, you should be able to order the right thing.

We got the “Gomaryu” for 800¥ being the lowest spice level and the Asyura a Medium level for 900¥ and this one was absolutely perfect!

The soup here at Gomaryuu Ramen is thick, flavored with sesame and topped with Japanese spinach, ground meat, and spices. The noodles are a bit thicker, which we loved and the extra dried garlic provided, just goes so well with it. Although you may think the portion is not crazy big, it’s extremely filling, you may need to go for a little extra walk.

Definitely on our best Ramen in Tokyo list!

Ōsaka Kushikatsu Ten-ya Wan-ya is nestled in the backstreets just between Shin-Okubo and Okubo station and is another one of these great places that are almost impossible to find. Actually, if our friend had not brought us here we would never even have known of its existence…

It’s a tiny Kushikatsu Restaurant and well known with locals, which makes it a busy little shop. Therefore better be prepared to wait a little, but it’s well worth once you get your food. As it was full when we arrived, we took the only outdoor table. Although it was a hot and humid summer night it was nice. We got the feeling as if this could be anywhere in southeast Asia, but Japan.

They have an English menu which made ordering so much easier and we tell you why. The way it works is, you write down what you want on a little paper and pass it to the counter. The guys then prepare your order in small batches, for you to be able to start enjoying as it is freshly made. So writing down your order in Japanese would have been quite the challenge.. ..maybe next time :p

As with Kushikatsu, cabbage is served on the side. Its something you will often see with fried foods here, it is served with the purpose to help with digestion. Pretty smart right? Also, you will be given a small tin of sauce for your skewers to dip at the start. Now there only really is one rule: no double-dipping!

What did we order?

We came to have more of a snack with drinks and got 5 skewers each and a drink, which brought us to a total of 1200¥ per person, that is pretty decent we think. Sure if your starving you can mix and match or follow their 20 item taster menu. Just tell them when to stop. As for our small selection of skewers, our friends must-eats were: Ume Chicken, Miso Katsu and the Negi Ponsu (Scallions with Ponzu sauce). The last one we could not even see on the menu, but if you go just add it anyway.

Our opinion? To be honest, everything was pretty tasty! Definitely a great place to start off your night or have a few snacks and drinks for dinner with friends!

Yeah, we have to confess, we do love a nice kebab! And if you have traveled through Okubo station there is a good chance you were hit by the delicious smell coming from Saray Kebab!

And it’s though! Whatever they are putting on their meat, the smell is just mouth-watering! We are feeling a bit like Mikey over here. ????

And aside from that, these guys are just really nice! Always have a smile and a joke, which explains why at any time you pass their small shop a bunch of people are queuing….

They only have one table that you could use, as really take away is their main business. How about the Food? Obviously, the kebab is great, you can get chicken, beef or both. But they also do falafel, hummus or halloumi cheese. Choose between sand (pita bread) or wrap as well as your sauce and give them a few minutes to prepare. They also have some other things including a rather daring kebab norimaki or mashed potato kebab. Also anybody vegetarian, they do have a nice selection for you too.

Now, we have been here a few times and love their chicken and fries sand, with a combo of spicy and yogurt sauce. Also, the hummus is extremely tasty! And although not on the menu as such, you can get it as a dip to go ????
