Gomaryuu is a small Ramen Shop near Okubo station and it’s famous for its extra spicy ramen!
Of course, they also have a “normal” one for anyone who cannot take the heat, but if you are a spice lover Gomaryuu Ramen is really the ramen shop for you in Tokyo!
You can hardly miss it with its signature skull just as you leave Okubo stations south exit. There can be a queue, but it is worth the wait. Also as with most Ramen shops, people do not come to spend time but to eat, enjoy and quickly leave.
So get your ticket at the machine out front. It is all in Japanese, but there is a note next to it with some English on it. Also, the spice levels are written on the buttons, so even if you do not speak Japanese, you should be able to order the right thing.
We got the “Gomaryu” for 800¥ being the lowest spice level and the Asyura a Medium level for 900¥ and this one was absolutely perfect!
The soup here at Gomaryuu Ramen is thick, flavored with sesame and topped with Japanese spinach, ground meat, and spices. The noodles are a bit thicker, which we loved and the extra dried garlic provided, just goes so well with it. Although you may think the portion is not crazy big, it’s extremely filling, you may need to go for a little extra walk.
Definitely on our best Ramen in Tokyo list!
