Gochiton or in Japanese “ごちとん” is just outside Yoyogi station and serves Ton-Jiru Miso soup only, the perfect lighter option when the weather gets colder.

Inside it looks a bit like an indoor festival site with bunting and crates of fresh vegetables ready to be cooked. They have two floors so even if you have to wait, the queue normally moves quickly.

Why we love Gochiton

You get free tea and the English menu is easy to read. We recommend getting the lunch set, which is any of their number 1-9 main dishes. Yes, they are numbered and extra rice, pickles, raw egg, and side dish are included in the deal. What was the most amazing surprise is, that the staff before taking our order showed us a picture of each item on their phone, just to make sure we knew what to order. How great is that?

So we got nr 3 for 1000¥and nr 9 for 1200¥, plus extra egg and natto for 100¥ each. And it was great! Because the Miso soup did remind us a bit of ramen but without the noodles. And the big pieces of carrot, daikon and onion gave us that homemade chunky vegetable soup feel. The best part we found was even the tofu, you will be surprised!

So our verdict, Gochiton is great if you are looking for a wholesome dish, something lighter than ramen but comfy and soupy, like something your mum would make.
