Kinokuniya Confectionery Shop in Japanese “紀の国屋本店” is a small Sweets shop in Enoshima, famous for their Manju, a traditional Japanese confection.

People come here to taste their Meoto Manju, which are sweet steamed buns. And you can even watch them make it! Available are two different types: A brown one with a mashed bean paste center and a white one that has smooth bean past inside. You can get just one or a few to take home…

But what we really loved at Kinokuniya Confectionery Shop is their Japanese style ice cream sandwich!

You can choose between 3 shapes (Turban, Clam or Scallop Shell) and 3 fillings (Vanilla, Green Tea, Red Bean Jam). They are not too big so if you are indecisive, why not have 2? One of these tiny Japanese style ice cream sandwiches will set you back 280¥ and it’s just the perfect treat on a hot day, or eh, well anytime ????

They have a few seats inside, as well as in the front of the shop. We recommend using them as walking while eating is still a bit of a bad habit for Japanese. And you will also realize quite quickly there are no bins around. In our opinion another reason why staying there and being able to leave your wrappers is great.

We got the Scallop Shell Shape with Matcha Ice Cream and Red Bean Paste and let us tell you: it was just perfect! The Wafer-thin Cracker was delicious and the mix of the slightly salty Red Beans with the Match Ice cream was so tasty, it set us into the right mood to explore the rest of the Island.

Make sure to check out the far side of Enoshima, with their walkable caves. It is really a must-see when coming here!
