Kushidori is a Yakitori chain with Restaurants mainly in Sapporo, Sendai but also one in far away Asahikawa! You can even find 2-3 Restaurants in Tokyo.

If you are looking for a local place, this is a great option as finding a place to eat in Asahikawa can be a little tricky. Especially if you want to mix it up a little from the daily ramen, Kushidori is the perfect place to come to. With the staff being super friendly, an English menu available and the fare being cheap and tasty! There is nothing to complain, I probably even ate the best chicken meatball stick I ever had here. Giving this is my standard order I do know a thing or two…

As this is a popular one with locals, you may have to wait a little before being seated, but it is spacious enough and the queue therefor moves quickly. Just, when you arrive, make sure to give the staff your name to be put on the list. So they can call you as soon as they have space.

What did I order at Kushidori?

Their specialty are skewers, mainly chicken. But there is also pork, beef, and some vegetables. They have salads and, this is a bit special “meshi”. Which is meat, vegetable, and rice all simmered together in a broth. I just saw this dish on the tv the day before so I was excited to try.

I ordered chicken meatballs with plum sauce and I cannot highly enough recommend it! This was so good I got it twice. Also, Asparagus wrapped in bacon, ginger wrapped in bacon, potatoes (but you can skip those), daikon salad and the pork belly meshi. Which to my delight was cooked in front of me. All of the above and two beers made my bill 2400¥. Which is great value considering the amount of food I ordered.

So if you are in town make sure to check out Kushidori. The perfect place for solo travellers, few friends or couples. The only thing it is a smoking restaurant, but being in japan most Jakarta’s are…

I for sure will come back when in town, the chicken meatballs alone would be reason enough for me.
